Aug 9th 1955 — Jun 25th 2023 (67 years)

Biography

Wendell passed away peacefully on June 25, 2023 in Saskatoon. Wendell was born August 9, 1955, at Meadow Lake, SK to Kathleen and Kenneth McKay. Later, for employment reasons Ken moved his family to Prince George, BC. It was there that his sister, Belinda (Lin) was born. Shortly after, Ken and Kathleen parted ways and Ken returned to Meadow Lake with Wendell and Lin. It was then that Wendell and Lin would be entrusted to the care of Ken’s parents, Colin and Marjorie McKay. It would be many years later before Wendell and Lin would meet their mother again and her sons, Deryl and Vincent.
The family later moved to Prince Albert, SK, where Wendell would spend his grade school years. Just as Wendell was to enter high school, once again, to gain employment, Ken moved his family to a little town called Cutbank, SK, near the Gardiner Dam where he attended school at Outlook High. A final move was made to Saskatoon, SK. This is where Wendell would finish high school and graduate from Evan Hardy Collegiate. Wendell became a father in 1992 with the birth of his daughter Leah. As his father did, he entrusted Leah to the care of his dad, Ken and stepmom, Peggy.
Wendell made many friends during his working career with the City of Saskatoon and various other employers throughout the years. Most recently with Curtis Olson at Swift Development. Curtis and his family played a special part in Wendell’s life. Their love, care and concern for Wendell was beyond measure.
One of Wendell's favorite things was to spend time at Candle Lake with his sister, Lin, brother-in-law, Tracy and their friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or just take the time to relax while there.
Wendell is survived by his sister Belinda (Tracy) Seckinger, brothers, Deryl (Cindy) McKay, Vincent (Melanie) McKay and their families, stepmom, Peggy McKay, and her family.
Wendell was predeceased by his daughter Leah McKay, his father, Ken McKay, his mother, Kathleen McKay, paternal grandparents, Colin and Marjorie McKay, maternal grandparents, Caroline Vandale and Martin Lavallee, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
For those of you that knew Wendell, you will without doubt remember he was a kind man, with a gentle spirit. He will be forever missed.
Wendell’s ashes will be laid to rest with his family at a later date with a private graveside family gathering in Glenmary, SK.
You are home. Glory to God!
