It is with great sadness that we announce Curt’s passing. Curt passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly, and we are left in a state of shock and grief.
Curt is survived by his loving partner, Susan Thompson, his beloved daughter, Gwen Appel of British Columbia, and cousins Susan and Sandra of Arizona, and Richard Appel of Wyoming. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family in Canada: in-laws Jean (Hideki), Lucy, Thomas, Brian, Wayne (Racil), Emily (Wayne), Garry (Donna), Caroline (Roy), six nieces and nephews, and ten great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be no funeral service. Final visitation has been held with family and cremation has taken place.
Please remember Curt as a person with a cheerful, inquisitive, and intelligent scientific mind. He enjoyed practising aikido, playing golf, teaching pharmacovigilance, solving crossword puzzles, discussing world events, cooking delicious meals, working in his garden, and making corny puns. On his way out the door, he would put on his beret and be off with a jaunty, “Cheers!” We will miss and love him forever.
Curt believed in supporting charities doing good works and was a regular donor to the Ottawa Food Bank (https://www.ottawafoodbank.ca/). We know he would also be very appreciative of donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca/en) in honour of his father who suffered with this terrible disease, or to a charity of your choice.
