Rob James McMechan, aged 60, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023 in Calgary, Alberta after a long illness.
He was born on November 30, 1962 in Belleville, Ontario to Carl and Sharon McMechan. In July of 1968 they packed up Rob, older sister Carla and younger siblings Jane and Steven and moved to Calgary, Alberta where they were joined in 1972 by youngest sibling Ann.
Like his father before him he was a "telephone man" and worked for Telus, formerly AGT, from 1979 until his retirement in 2016. Involved in all aspects of Installation and Repair, his adventures in houses, with buried drop, uncooperative ladders and vans, Bosses and telephone poles were hilarious.
Rob loved golfing, hockey, fishing and movies, coin and record collecting, wing nights, beers and coffees and cigarettes with family and friends, managing and playing on the Sudsuckers Softball team and the odd bit of travel. But mostly he loved his guitars, tweaking and tuning and playing them for hours.
Rob was predeceased by his parents Carl and Sharon and is survived by his siblings, Carla (Bob), Jane (Brian), Steven (BJ) and Ann (Greg). His 10 nieces and nephews, Patrick, Joey, Robbie, Holly, Allan, James, Emma, Adam, Danna and Kyle and the next generation, Brodie, Sawyer, Poesy, Darby and Ayden. All these he loved and when he didn't see them loved hearing about them. His refrigerator door fairly groaned under the weight of their pictures.
Rob will be laid to rest with his parents in a private family Internment on September 11, 2023 at Edenbrook Cemetery , Calgary.
Plans for a Celebration of his life will follow at a later date.
