Biography

Age 81, born in Toronto ON, passed away at home in Halifax on July 8, 2023, predeceased by his parents, Grace and Albert, sister Sandra, survived by his wife Catherine (Kaye), stepson Darin (Stefanie), granddaughters Emma and Amy. By request of the family there will be no service.

Murray was one of the kindest and most generous persons I had the pleasure of knowing. He was a wonderful man full of compassion and charity for others. (He loved a good joke, maybe a little off colour at times lol) He spent his life helping those less fortunate. He never wanted credit or any fuss for all the good he did. Murray had a life full of adventure, friends and a loving family. He left us a lifetime of great memories.
Murray was a professional power boat racer, owner/operator of of several drinking establishments in Calgary (Bronco Billy’s), west coast rep. (Vancouver)for Barton Pipe and Pilings. Always the entrepreneur (he couldn’t sit still) he moved to Nova Scotia in the 2000’s to be near his grandchildren (Emma Johnston and Amy Johnston) whom he adored. He operated some auction houses and worked right to the end driving as a chauffeur (Atlantic Limo). He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. Murray passed away at home with Mom (Kaye Cranston) by his side. I feel these words are inadequate, for he was so much more. Murray made the world a better place. He always had a good story and knew how to have fun. I know his wishes would be; Be kind to everyone and help those in need. We will miss you Murray.
