It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hugh Dickson O'Flynn, 66, of Kingston, on July 21, 2024, at Valley Hospice Kentville.
Born on October 29, 1957, Hugh was the beloved son of the late Georgina Dickson and Patrick O'Flynn, and step-son of the late Rose O'Flynn.
Hugh is survived by his devoted wife, Rodney (MacIntosh) O'Flynn, and their loving children: Patrick "Hugh" O'Flynn and his wife Sabrina (Briggs) O'Flynn, along with their children Riley and Isabelle; Jackie "Ryan" O'Flynn and his daughters Kimberly and Melody Proulx; Christopher O'Flynn and his son Caelum Janes; and Anna O'Flynn and her children Caleb and Charlotte McNeil.
Hugh was a proud graduate of Memorial High School in Sydney Mines, Class of 1977. He continued his education at Kings College in the Annapolis Valley, where he pursued a passion for broadcasting. His career began with Kings Cable, where he was instrumental in running a pilot project for educational television.
In January 1979, Hugh started working for ATV Sydney before transferring to CTV in Halifax in 1983. He dedicated over three decades to the broadcasting industry before retiring in 2010. Along the way, he became a life-long friend to his co-workers and always had a smile for them when they saw each other. They will miss his indelible spirit and crooked little smile!
Hugh's generous spirit was evident even in his final act of kindness, as he donated his corneas for transplant and his organs for study and research, ensuring his legacy of helping others continues.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Hugh's honor at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 6476 Bayers Rd, Halifax, on Saturday, July 27th at 2 PM.
Hugh's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his career, and his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hugh's memory to Valley Hospice Kentville or a charity of your choice.
