Biography

It is with deep sorrow and love that we mourn the passing of Helen Hubard of Hamilton, Ontario on December 24th, 2023 at the age of 98.


Helen will be incredibly missed by her Daughter, Diane Kowalski, Grandchildren, Dave Hils (Leanne), Lee Hils (Joan), Glen Hils (Nina), and Jennifer Gillott (Kowalski), Great-Grandchildren, Jessica Betzner, Kristen Woods, Christopher Hils, Steven Hils, Gillian Hils, Jorna Cairns, Danielle Hils, Lucy Gillott and her dear Great-Great-Grandchildren. Helen will also be greatly missed by her Niece, Joyce Laking (John, John Jr.)


Helen was predeceased by her loving Husband of 60 years, Eric Hubard, Children, Patricia Hils, John William Hubard and Sister, Betty Mortson.


Helen spread her love and passion for humanity through years of public service as a Postal Carrier for Canada Post, a Retail Associate at Sears and an Educational Assistant for the HWDSB where she worked with so many special students. Helen spent her retired days volunteering at McMaster Children’s Hospital making children smile with crafts, books and her nurturing grace. She was a staple at The Juravinski Cancer Center where she comforted many with her crocheted hats, cookie deliveries, directions to appointments and transportation arrangements. She always greeted you with a smile, friendly conversation or a silent hand hold and hug.


Helen received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her years of dedicated service as an outstanding role model and humanitarian. Everyone felt love when in her presence.


Helen held many talents and was well known for her famous butter-tarts, baked goods, knitted sweaters, crocheted blankets and cross stitched art. To receive a homemade gift from her was truly special.


Helen is the matriarch of our family and made the world a better place. She will be missed immensely and never forgotten by many.


Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27th from 1-4pm at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 163, 435 Limeridge Road, East. 1-2pm - visitation, 2-3pm - Service and 3-4pm - food & refreshments.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen’s name to The Juravinski Cancer Center.
