Garry Kainz

Mar 26th 1954 — Feb 26th 2024 (69 years)

Biography

Born on March 26, 1954, Garry grew up on a farm north of Markinch, where he learned the values of hard work and resilience from his parents. These values would become the guiding principles of his life.
Garry, along side his wife Shelley, ran the Welding and Machine Shop in Southey for 19 years where they helped keep the area farmers rolling in the fields. Garry passed his knowledge onto his children and many of the people he worked with in the welding shop over the years. Whether in the workplace or within his community, he approached every task with passion and commitment.
Family & friends were the cornerstone of Garry's life. He was a pillar of strength and support for his loved ones, offering guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love. His dry Garry jokes and his very long stories filled our hearts with laughter and warmth. His love and stubbornness knew no bounds.
In his leisure time, Garry enjoyed hunting, fishing, sitting on the exec for the Loon Creek Wildlife Club, volunteer firefighter, and being a “Vintage Racer on a Vintage Sled”-winning more than a few races over the years.
Garry is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Shelley Kainz, his children Ryan & Jackie, Evan & Steph, Jolene & Chad, his grandchildren Eric, Tyson, Kaylea, Gavin, & Ethan, sister Denise & Shane, in-laws Murray, Joe, Lynn & Bruce, Sharon & Stan, Leanne & Gord as well as numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Ernest and Ruth Kainz, sisters Daphne and Debbie, who undoubtedly welcomed him with a huge hug and a stiff rye.
A celebration of Garry's life will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 3:00pm at Southey Memorial Hall.
