Biography

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on September 15, 2023 our beloved friend, brother, father, grandfather, “Poppy Fred” Frederick James Martin (Calgary, AB), passed away at the age of 71.

Fred will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Roy and Keith and his children Brandelyn and Kyle. Poppy Fred will be forever loved and missed by his grandchildren, Braedon, Damien, and Tegan. Fred’s special bond with his nieces and nephews shall be forever remembered and cherished.

He is predeceased by his father Simon Martin, his mother Marjorie Martin (Chant), brother Tom Martin and nephew Jimmy Martin.

In his time among us, Dad would never mince his words or sugarcoat his thoughts. He possessed a boldness that was both admirable and sometimes a bit daunting. Those who knew him well understood that his grumpy disposition concealed a heart that was truly giving and capable of boundless compassion.

Those who truly knew him understood the strength of his character. His firm refusal to conform to societal expectations was simultaneously intimidating and awe-inspiring. Beneath the surface, he wielded a heart as vast as the oceans – a heart that only a few were fortunate enough to witness.

As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember the unabashed zest with which he approached his passions, be it billiards, golf, or his impressive ability to draft HVAC drawings in Microsoft Paint.

May he find solace in the halls of the heavens, where the greenest fairways and pristine billiard tables await his skilled hands.

Rest in peace, Dad. Although you were a man of few words, your actions spoke volumes. Your generosity knew no bounds, offering support to those you held near and dear.

As we bid you farewell, we shall remember that even in death, your spirit will continue to touch the lives of those you encountered.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Frederick Martin’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
