Biography

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Darlene May Cockcroft, who peacefully departed this world at her home on November 17th, 2023. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 5, 1957, Darlene's warmth and love touched the lives of all who knew her.
Darlene was the beloved wife and best friend of her devoted husband, John. As a loving and nurturing mother, she was a guiding light to her children, Christine and Chris, and took immense joy and pride in her role as Nanny to Nathan and Ben. Survived by her dear brother Andrew, sisters Karla, and Tammy, Darlene also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family members and friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart, providing love and support throughout her life. Darlene's heart overflowed with pride in the achievements and happiness of her cherished family.
Darlene's passion for music knew no bounds, finding joy in various genres, particularly songs from Paul Simon, Corey Hart, K.D Lang, and Def Leppard (but definitely not Justin Bieber). Her eclectic taste reflected her vibrant spirit and love for life. Her amazing sarcastic sense of humor, coupled with her infectious laughter, brought joy to all who knew her. Darlene lived life with a light-heartedness that was contagious, never taking herself too seriously. We like to think that Darlene is organizing the most amazing kitchen party right now.
In honoring Darlene's wishes, her journey continues through cremation, and a private celebration of her life is planned for the summer of 2024. Further details will be confirmed at a later date, allowing family and close friends to come together to reminisce, share fond memories, and celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, Pictou County VON and Caregiver's Nova Scotia for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caregiver's Nova Scotia (https://caregiversns.org/), an organization close to Darlene's heart, continuing her legacy of kindness, support and caring of others.
