Biography

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert, with his wife and sons at his side, on Monday, January 15, 2024 in Ottawa. Bob is survived by his best friend and cherished wife of 60 years, Beth (Pratt). He was a proud and loving father to Patrick (Melanie) and James (Holly) and devoted grandfather of Robert, Jack, Jacob and Logan.

Born on a dairy farm in Stittsville to the late Linton and Patricia McCoy, it was at South Carleton High School where he met Beth, the love of his life. His irrepressible sense of fun and love for all sorts of play – sports, games, jokes and pranks - landed him in hot water many times. After graduation he joined Bell Canada and married his high-school love.

Bob’s work with Bell took him around the world, moving first to Oakville, then to Saudi Arabia with stops in China, Turkey and Italy along the way. Throughout his working years he travelled extensively for both work and pleasure. Once retired, he settled down for a time in Perth, Ontario, where his was an active volunteer with seniors and with the Smith’s Falls Golf Club. Adventure called again, leading to a winter home in Ajijic, Mexico and summers on the Mississippi River just outside Ottawa. His final years were spent at Carp Commons Retirement Village in Carp.

He showed all that knew him what it meant to be a model husband, father, grandfather and friend. His memory will be a blessing.

The family is grateful to the staff at Carp Commons and the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their care in his final days.

A service to commemorate his life will take place in the Spring.
